What to Expect During a Kitchen Installation
Installing a new kitchen is exciting — but it’s also a minor construction project that involves a series of carefully coordinated steps. Unlike decorating or replacing a single item, a full kitchen installation includes multiple trades, deliveries, and site work inside your home. That means some disruption is normal, but with the right preparation and expectations, the process can be smooth and rewarding.
At Eglin Kitchens, we manage kitchen installations across Kendal, Arnside, Milnthorpe and Grange-over-Sands, providing expert guidance at every stage.
Before Installation Day – Planning & Preparation
A successful installation starts long before anyone arrives with tools. Good preparation helps prevent delays, surprises and stress:
Final Design Review: Confirm the layout, finishes and appliance choices with your designer.
Site Preparation: Clear out your current kitchen and create space for materials and safe access.
Temporary Kitchen Setup: Set up a space for essential items like a kettle, microwave or toaster so daily routines stay practical.
Access & Logistics: Ensure there’s clear access for delivery vans, stairways or paths where materials will arrive.
Pre-installation prep ensures there are no last-minute blockers on day one.
Typical Kitchen Installation Timeline
The timeline below gives a realistic look at what happens during a kitchen installation project:
1. Delivery & Checks
Your cabinets, worktops and appliances are delivered and inspected to make sure nothing is missing or damaged before work begins.
2. Removal & Site Preparation
If you have an existing kitchen, this is removed first. Walls may need patching, floors may be prepared, and utilities assessed before installation starts.
3. Base & Wall Cabinet Installation
The framework of your kitchen is built by placing base and wall units in their correct positions, ensuring everything is level and square.
4. Worktops & Appliances
Worktops are measured, cut, placed and secured. Sinks, hobs, ovens and other fixtures are installed at this stage, with qualified electricians and plumbers handling their own connections.
5. Finishing Touches & Sign-Off
Once cabinets, worktops and appliances are fitted, finishing touches such as trims, seals and hardware are added. A final check ensures everything meets quality standards and your expectations.
Trades, Coordination & Project Management
A kitchen installation involves multiple trades — carpenters, plumbers, electricians, plasterers and decorators — often working in sequence.
When you work with a specialist like Eglin Kitchens, we coordinate all of these trades for you. This means:
One point of contact
Expert scheduling of deliveries and trades
Consistent communication throughout the project
Minimum stress for you
This coordinated approach helps keep your installation on track and reduces unwelcome surprises.
Daily Routine During Installation
Typically, installations run Monday to Friday, 8 am–4/5 pm, with work progressing step-by-step each day. Some installers may work weekends by arrangement — just let your project manager know your preference.
Dust and disruption are normal during the work, so a reasonable expectation helps keep the process stress-free. Your installation team should maintain good housekeeping, but a final clean by you once work is complete is usually needed.
Communication & Expectations
Start Dates: Estimated start dates are just that — estimates. Supply-chain delays or previous job overruns can affect timing.
End Dates: No reputable installer promises an exact end date. Quality work takes time, and rushing can cause issues later.
A well-managed project focuses on delivering the right result, not simply finishing on a date.
Final Handover & Aftercare
Once installation is complete, you’ll be guided through:
How fixtures and appliances work
Warranty and aftercare information
What to do if you spot any issues after completion
A good installer offers support beyond the install date, giving you peace of mind for years to come.
